What did Turkey gain from the NATO Conference?
The NATO Summit took place in Spain’s capital Madrid from 28-30 June 2022. The pre-summit activities resulted in Turkey getting the American assurance for getting American F-16 fighter planes. It was declared after US President Joe Biden met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. As a result Turkey lifted its veto and allowed Sweden and Finland to join NATO. Moreover, NATO summit adopted a new Strategic Concept describing Russia as the ‘main threat’, unlike its earlier description of Russia in its Strategic Concept of 2010, calling Russia as ‘a strategic partner’. Senior journalist Asad Mirza describes the details of the issue in his Vishwa Darpan program.
